2. Junior Selection Policy - April 2022

Sunbury Cricket Club
Junior Team Selection Policy - April 2022

As we start another season the Management Committee would like to clarify the position regarding juniors playing outside of their age group.

The aim at Sunbury CC is for all juniors to play for their own age group team. It is our belief that by doing this we develop the best skill set for future development of each individual and the age group as a whole.

Over the years we have had several England players and numerous county players and, without exception, they have ALL played a leading role in their own age group, often as captain.

Playing within their own age group WILL NOT prevent juniors from playing for older age groups in competitive games where appropriate.

Additional consideration must be given to juniors who do not have a team at their own age group e.g., 6/7 year olds playing for U8's. These groups all train on Sunday mornings.

Sunday morning managers will take a balanced approach to selection by rotating Sunday morning selections. When we have mid-week fixture clashes between two age groups the age group manager will decide whether to release the junior to play up.

Girls - Junior Team Selection Policy

As a club we are working extremely hard to develop our girls’ teams. To continue to build on this. Our policy is that girls should play for their teams in preference to the mixed junior teams.

Coaches will be expected to communicate regarding team selection and to discuss any clashes that may arise. Priority should be given to the establishment of our girls’ teams but girls should also be encouraged to play for mixed junior teams whenever they can.

The Future of Juniors at Sunbury

The aim of this policy is to ensure that every junior develops to their full potential and plays in matches appropriate for the continuous development of their skill set, both technically and as a leader where appropriate.

(Please note that the differentiation between hard ball and soft ball should not be treated as an issue as many age groups, and sometimes adult teams, also use incrediballs to practise too!)
