The inaugural game for the Sunbury Heat team (captained by David Price), faced a stiff challenge as they came across a very strong and younger Spencer team. Our focus for the Heat was to introduce new members to the club especially colt parents and players returning to the game after a long break. Although this may not necessarily yield the desired results immediately, we are keen to promote this competition to encourage new members to take up the game and hopefully join the club as playing members.
Amongst the team were friends and new members to the club - Nandan, Sohail, Rohan, Ahmad who along with colts parents Syed Ali, Indy Johal, Andy Barnes and Martin Cattley, SCC veteran Sunny Luthra & youthful Josh Harpur (brother of Matt Harpur) all coming together to play for the first time together.
Sunbury lost the toss and courtesy of some generous wides (each wide costing 2 runs) let Spencer get onto a imposing 173/5 in 20 overs. Syeed Ali & Indy Johal impressed with the ball. Indy's hamstring pulled him to seek shelter under the cool gazebo forcing Ranjit to take the field as a sub. Some good catching from Rohan, Andy and brilliant ground fielding from Martin and Ahmad ( including a brilliant run out ) and brave stops from Luthra, albeit in slow motion, were on display.
Sunbury opened the innings with Sohail and Josh starting well before scoreboard pressure got Josh. Sohail played some exquisite drives to score a well made 44 off 41 balls. Nandan also impressed with the bat. Unfortunately, the target was very stiff this time and hopefully the team will gel together better for the next game. We are hoping to see more of these guys the next time they play. The skipper will also hopefully know the team better next time around having seen them in action for the first time.
