Weekend Catering at the Club: A New Initiative for Members

Weekend Catering at the Club: A New Initiative for Members

News Editor8 Jul 2020 - 12:26

A new initiative to make the club a more appealing place for members and their families.

One of the many new of initiatives taken forward by the Club over the winter has been to develop a means by which food could be provided for members, particularly between Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, to make the club a more appealing place for members and their families. To deliver this service an agreement has been reached with a local charity, Surplus to Supper (S2S), to provide these services.

Therefore, from this weekend, food will be available for members as follows:

FRIDAYS: 6:00pm to 9:00pm food for bar users

SATURDAYS: 12:00pm to 7.30pm food for bar users and spectators

SUNDAYS: 10:00am to 12:00pm serving the needs of colts and their families.

12:00pm to 3:00pm food for bar users and spectators

The menu will be varied with a range of staple and special items on the menu using regular staff as well as guest chefs committed to the charity’s ethos.

Menus will be published on Friday afternoons with a view to using the best of the fresh surplus food made available by local supermarkets and wholesalers the weekend.

Please bear with us also as the arrangements for serving the food evolve in accordance with government guidance on delivering services safely during the pandemic.

Every meal you buy is supporting the charity - see below.

New members are welcome and can join online here.

The Work of Surplus to Supper

Members may be interested in the work of the charity. There are three strands to the charity including the café for members as described above.

Redistribution
Quality-assured produce that would otherwise have gone to waste is redistributed FREE to local charities, two schools and two nurseries, the London Fire Service and ten local foodbanks. This is on a substantial scale with the charity currently collecting and donating on average five tonnes of food per week.

Surplus Café and Surplus Shop/Stall
The volunteers at the café at the Club aim to provide food for profit with objective of providing one meal for charity on the profits from each meal sold. There is also a shop/stall at which members are invited to make donations to the charity for good quality produce which is surplus to the needs of the foodbanks and so would otherwise go to waste.

Catering for Events
As well as hosting and supplying community events, groups can also hire out the team for private functions such as fine dining experiences, food for parties and weddings etc

In return for the charity undertaking much of its food preparation for its event catering at the Club we have reached an agreement for them to provide teas for cricket matches, meals at other club events and, as highlighted in this email, food for members on a regular basis as above.

More details of the activity of the charity can be found here .
