Many congratulations to Sunbury’s very own Richard Johnson who has been appointed First Team Coach for Middlesex County Cricket Club.
As many of you will know, ‘Jono’ was a Sunbury Colt who made his debut for Middlesex in 1992 whilst still a teenager. He made headlines in 1994 when he took all 10 wickets against Derbyshire in their second innings with 10 for 45.
He made his test debut in 2003, playing two test matches and Ten One Day internationals, all in 2003.
Since retiring from first class cricket in 2007, Richard has worked as a bowling coach at both Middlesex and more lately Surrey.
According to fellow Sunbury and Middlesex legend, David Nash, this is a fantastic appointment for many reasons:
“Jono is a brilliant coach. His analysis and attention to detail is second to none but he knows how to build a great culture where the lads will have fun and play with a smile on their face. He still has that key Sunbury trait that we all abide by at our great club: ‘treat others how you’d wish to be treated yourself’. This will be a turning point for Middlesex.”
Good luck Jono and congratulations from everyone at Sunbury CC. We are delighted for you and we can’t wait to see the successful years return.
