Sunday 8th June
The U8s smashed Staines & Laleham, winning by a whopping 173 runs. Dan Taylor bowled well during his 2 overs, going for just 2 runs and claiming 2 wickers, while there were contributions from the whole team in a great batting display that saw Sunbury make 157-2 from 16 overs in response to Staines & Laleham’s 44-14.
Also picking up a win were the U11s, who beat Woking & Horsell by 65 runs. There were great innings’ from Shaurya Panigrahy, Rajveer Behniwal and Adhrit Chadha: all three retired not out after surpassing 30. Shaurya continued his good day, as he and Viaan Nichan picked up 3 wickets apiece.
At Malden Wanderers, the U11 Girls claimed a 44-run victory: Harriet Strelitz top scoring with 20 runs and Poppy Wells bowling brilliantly in taking 3 wickets for 5 runs from her 2 overs.
The U12s castled Windsor in a comprehensive bowling performance that saw the hosts bowled out for 98 in response to Sunbury’s 125-3. Arhaan Khan had a good day with the bat, retiring not out on 32 off 28, and Thomas Box made 29*, while Shlok Trivedi was the pick of the bowlers for his 2-5 from 2 overs.
A very low scoring affair saw the U13s suffer a narrow defeat to Spencer. Having been bowled out for just 66, Vivaan Senapati showed admirable resistance with the bat in scoring 31. With the ball, Harry Morris was superb in claiming 4 wickets for 7 rums from his 3 overs, as Spencer got over the line on 67-7 from 18 overs.
Monday 9th June
Teddington proved too strong for the U12s, as they fell to a 76-run defeat. There was little to write home about, although Lenny Connors bowled well for his 1-25 off 4 overs and Ranveer Singh was the standout batsman, scoring an unbeaten 35.
The U15Bs comfortably beat Malden Wanderers: Samarth Sheth top scored with 50 (retired not out) off 44 deliveries and Liam O’Connor also batted well, hitting a 26-ball 44. Sunbury secured the win with a solid all-round effort with the ball – LOC and Senal Vidanagamage taking 2 wickets each.
Unfortunately, the U15 Girls were edged out by 4 runs in a hard-fought game against Harrow. Emily Ramsbottom was excellent with the ball, conceding just 8 runs from her 4 overs and taking a wicket, while Rhythm Gala scored 59 off 46 balls with the bat as Sunbury came up just short in their chase of 135.
Tuesday 10th June
It was a 91-run triumph over Indian Gymkhana for the U10s. Captain Samardeep Singh bowled exceptionally well – his 3 overs going for just 6 runs whilst also featuring 3 wickets – while he and Raff Tindall top scored with 18 runs each.
Wednesday 11th June
The U14Bs cruised past Walton-on-Thames, with Grace Mansfield starring with the ball as she took 3 wickets during her 4 overs for the concession of only 12 runs. Adhayan Singh retired not out after brutally bashing 42 off 27 balls and skipper Arjan Thandi hit a composed 38, as Sunbury chased down Walton’s 140 in the 16th over to seal an 8-wicket win.
At Esher, the U14 Girls claimed a 4-wicket victory over the ‘Dragons’. Five Sunbury bowlers took a wicket – Kaia Cheung the most economical – as the hosts were kept to 123. Rhythm Gala and Lilian Cattley both took fancy to the Esher bowlers, retiring not out on 31 off 26 and 34 off 15, respectively, to help Sunbury complete the chase with 16 balls to spare.
Thursday 12th June
It was a night to forget for the U10s who took the silver medal against Teddington. The less said the better, as the hosts chased down Sunbury’s total of 101-8 in 14.5 overs for the loss of 1 wicket. Onwards and upwards!
The U11s had a much better evening, thrashing Twickenham in the Cup. Ranveer Singh had a great day with bat in hand, scoring 60 off 47, as Sunbury posted 153. All the bowlers kept it tight, with Luis Wanigesekera the outstanding contributor in taking 4-9 in 3 overs, to help dismiss Twickenham for a paltry 50 runs.
Also facing Twickenham in the Cup were the U12s, who completed an equally dominant win. Arhaan Khan was miserly in the extreme, conceding just a single run during his 3.1 overs whilst also taking a wicket, while Lenny Connors and Archie Day both picked up 3 poles, as the visitors were bowled out for 82. Openers Shlok Trivedi and Charlie Rice made light work of the chase, scoring 35* and 42*, respectively, to complete a 10-wicket win in the 9th over.
Sadly, it wasn’t the U13s’ day as they were defeated by 44 runs at Richmond. Three Sunbury bowlers took a wicket each, while there were cameos throughout our batting innings but no one ever kicked-on, as we came up short of our target of 160.
The U14s eased past Hampton Hill, bowling them out for 86 inside 17 overs; Vayun Jain was the pick of the bowlers for his 4-12 off 4 overs, with Jacob Rice also taking 3 wickets. Alfie Granger smashed 51* off just 28 balls as Sunbury reached their target after 8 overs.
Friday 13th June
Alas, the same trick could not be repeated twice, as the U14s lost to Indian Gymkhana. Three Sunbury batsmen made 17 in an innings that never got going. While Arjan Thandi bowled well, taking 2 wickets during his 3 overs and going for just 11 runs, Indian Gym completed a 7-wicket win.
Any concerns that Friday 13th would prove to be an unlucky day for Sunbury were put to bed by the U15s, who brushed aside Sheen Park. Ayush Obhrai batted brilliantly, scoring 53 off only 31 balls, while Harry Kerridge was destructive at the top of the order, cracking 48 off 27 deliveries, to propel Sunbury to 204. The bowlers all did their jobs – Albert Connors the standout for his 2-12 from 4 overs – to see out a 92-run victory.
