The U8s kicked things off with a convincing 84-run win over Valley End: Harri Kurubaran starred with the bat in smacking 34 off 17 balls, while the bowling effort was led by Varun Mahadevan’s 3 wickets for 5 runs in 2 overs.
Unfortunately, the U9s came up just 3 runs short in a tight affair against Hampton Hill. Rayan Kotecha bowled superbly with figures of 1-3 from 2 overs and Cheith Pathiranage top scored with 22 from 16 balls.
It finished 1-1 in a unique U9 Girls double-header against our local rivals East Molesey, with Sunbury winning the first game by 5 runs and East Molesey claiming the second by a margin of 16 runs.
A comprehensive 85-run win for the U10 Girls was set up by some incredibly tight bowling: Lyla Gammage didn’t concede a single run in her 2 overs and also took a wicket, Ella Mansfield claimed 1-1 from 2 overs and Tabitha Klein picked up 2 wickets in 2 overs that gave away 3 runs. Phoebe Bentall’s 14 off 9 balls was the standout innings.
46 runs separated Sunbury and Richmond as the U11 Girls emerged victorious. Kaira Virdde and Catriona Olney were the pick of the bowlers – taking 1-7 off 2 and 1-4 off 2, respectively, while Poppy Davidson’s 15 and Jiya Johal’s 18 helped Sunbury to a good win.
Away at Staines & Laleham, the U12s proved far too strong for the hosts. After posting 131, Deben Ganguly and Thomas Box both retiring not out on 31 and 32, respectively, Sunbury skittled Staines & Laleham for 44. While the wickets were shared between 7 bowlers, Shlok Trivedi’s 3-2 off 1.1 overs was the highlight.
Sadly, it was a tough day out for the U13s as they were on the receiving end of a 121 loss to Roehampton. Max Page picked up 2 wickets and Akshaj Gupta was very economical, but Roehampton compiled 179 from their 25 overs. There was little to mention by way of batting, as Sunbury were bowled out for 58.
The U14 Girls enjoyed a far more successful trip, as they comfortably beat Thames Ditton by 75 runs. Grace Mansfield retired not out on 30 off just 17 balls and Eveline Box scored an unbeaten 26 to help Sunbury set a target of 154. Sophie Byrne and Lilian Cattley both took 2 wickets, the latter doing so for the concession of only 1 run, as Sunbury dismissed Thames Ditton for 79 in 13.5 overs.

It was a disappointing 15-run defeat for the U12s against Wycombe House, despite an excellent all-round performance from Rishaan Gawans. The left hander dismissed 3 Wycombe House batsmen and gave away only 9 runs in his 4 overs before going on to top score with a brisk 25 off 17 balls.
The U13s suffered a similarly frustrating loss at Indian Gymkhana. Krrish Patel was the pick of the bowlers in taking 3-17 off 4 overs, as Indian Gym set Sunbury 142 to win. It was a torrid start in response as the top three all fell without troubling the scorers, and although the middle order of Lucas Cholewa (37), Haris Ramzan (20) and Ranveer Singh (25) did well to recover, Sunbury ended up falling 36 runs short.
While it may have been a bank holiday, it certainly wasn’t a day of rest for the U15 Girls who played a game in the morning and then again in the evening. The first, against Valley End, saw openers Eloise Phillips and Emma Gillespie bat through the entire 20 overs – scoring 79* and 60*, respectively – as Sunbury made 157. The brilliant batting was backed up by the bowlers: Emily Ramsbottom and Grace Mansfield both taking the identical figures of 4-1-2-11, as Sunbury dismissed Valley End for 70 in less than 14 overs.
Following their morning victory, it was rinse and repeat for the girls. Batting first with a much-changed order, Harri Wheeler top scored with 35 and there were contributions all the way through, which saw Sunbury to the total of 130-4. All the bowlers did a superb job but Sophie Byrne and Emma Gillespie were the standouts, taking 3 wickets apiece to secure a 73-run win.
Tuesday 27th May
Across the river, the U15s lost a close game to East Molesey. Sunbury’s top four all made scores in the 20s, as the hosts were set a required 113 runs for victory. Skipper Ayush Obhrai led the way with the ball in his 2-6 from 2 overs, but East Molesey won in the final over to complete a 4-wicket win.
Wednesday 28th May
In a highly one-sided affair, the U10s dispatched Wycombe House by a whopping 125 runs. Every batter contributed, with Dhamanveer Singh and Will Dixon making 18 runs each. Sunbury’s bowlers then proceeded to cause havoc as 17 wickets were taken: Jacob Watson bagged a fifer; Jack Hillman claimed 4 wickets and Samardeep Singh took 3 poles.
The U13s chased down Richmond’s score of 112 to win the South Cup Final by 5 wickets. It was a particularly good day for Maximus Williams, who claimed 2 wickets for 6 runs from his 3 overs with the ball and added some much-needed impetus with the bat to finish 24* from 17 balls to get Sunbury over the line. Skipper Haris Ramzan retired not out on 30 to set the tone earlier on in the innings.
A heavy defeat was inflicted on Ham & Petersham by the U14Bs, who romped to a 9-wicket win. The wickets were shared among the Sunbury bowlers, but captain Nick Byrne was the pick of the bunch – taking 1-3 from 2 overs. Chasing 121, opener Avir Patel produced a characteristically powerful innings, as he retired not out on 41 off just 20 balls. Adhayan Singh and Grace Mansfield didn’t hang around either – striking 33 off 19 and 21 off 12, respectively – to help complete victory inside 11 overs.
Friday 30th May
The U15s squeaked past Hampton Hill in a nervy encounter to go top of the league. Winning the toss and batting, Hampton Hill got off to a great start and it was up to Albert Connors, ever the reliable man for making a breakthrough, to wrestle momentum back in Sunbury’s favour. He took 3-11 from 4 overs and was ably supported by Charlie Maunders (2-23 off 4), Vayun Jain (1-8 off 2) and Josh Cholewa (1-14 off 3). Needing 143 for victory, Sunbury kept losing wickets at regular intervals and it was left to the skill of skipper Charlie Maunders to navigate the chase. His superb, nerveless innings of 78* from 58 balls sealed the win with 2 balls remaining in the match.
Things were much more straightforward for the U15Bs, who beat Twickenham by 69 runs at home. Opener Liam O’Connor batted through the innings in a composed knock of 56* and Leo Pearson made 43 from 32 balls to help Sunbury to 174-3. 10 bowlers were used, and all did a good job, with Pavithran Pravtheepan, Leo Pearson and Avir Patel taking 2 wickets apiece.
