Alas, the U12 Girls were edged out by 18 runs against Esher, despite an exceptional individual performance from Harri Wheeler who, after scoring an unbeaten 44 from 27 balls, made a run out and took 2 catches in the field whilst also claiming 1 wicket for a mere 2 runs off 3 overs with the ball.

Disappointingly, the U13s saw defeat by 9 wickets in their match against Barnes, although Issam Shahad entertained in smashing 20 off just 8 balls and Max Page bowled a miserly 2 overs for a single run.

Local rivals Kempton weren’t at the races as the U14s completed a dominant 8-wicket win. Lewis Williams’ 4 over spell of 2-22 helped keep Kempton to 122, before Arjan Thandi retired not out on 40 and Bobby Nash smacked a quick 25* off 15 balls to see the target chased down in the 13th over.

Tuesday 20th May
Two Sunbury teams made the trip to Bushy Park to face Teddington and both came away victorious.

First, the U11s secured a 7-wicket win; Rishaan Gawans bowled superbly as he took three wickets in his 4 overs to help limit Teddington to 96. A solid all-round batting display, in which everyone who took to the crease contributed, saw Sunbury get the required runs.

Following shortly after were the U15s, whose victory saw them win the South U15 Cup. On a very tricky batting pitch that offered significant assistance to the spinners, Alfie Granger, Charlie Maunders and Albert Connors all picked up 2 wickets apiece as Teddington were bowled out for 78. Skipper Charlie Maunders’ batsmanship was on great display as he skilfully accumulated his way to 28 before picking out extra cover. His dismissal saw Sunbury lose 3 wickets for no runs and a win was not looking a certainty until Alfie Granger took brutal advantage of some rare pace on the ball and crashed 27 off 15 balls. It secured a 5-wicket win and progression into the next round of the National Cup.

The U14 Girls triumphed over East Molesey by 42 runs. A good batting performance across the board, in which Lilian Cattley, Grace Mansfield and Harri Wheeler all surpassed the 30-run retirement threshold, saw Sunbury post 178. Building brilliantly on her batting, Grace Mansfield starred with the ball, taking 3-9 off 2 overs, as East Molesey were bowled out for 136.

In what is becoming a bit of a habit, another Sunbury team showed up to Teddington and came home with a win. This time it was the turn of the U14s, who comfortably completed an 8-wicket win. Eshan Patel showed his talent in all facets by claiming 2-5 with the ball and taking a catch as the hosts were bowled out for 101, before hitting 34* to help Sunbury chase the required runs inside 14 overs.

The U15Bs suffered a tight loss to Ashford in the last over of the match, despite captain Leo Pearson’s composed 42* and Avir Patel’s destructive 24-ball 56*.

It was a night to remember for Lilian Cattley as the U15 Girls overcame Bushy Park. Bowling first, Sunbury kept the opposition to 107-8: Lilian the star of the show in producing an exceptional spell of bowling that earned her a 5-wicket haul that also included a hat-trick! However, her game was not done there; she and Grace Mansfield opened the batting, and both scored an unbeaten 46 as the target was chased down in 12.4 overs without loss.

Friday 23rd May
At Indian Gymkhana the U11s won their Cup game by 10-wickets. Openers Oliver Birch and Dhamanveer Singh went about the chase with great impetus and skill, finishing on 74* and 45*, respectively.

The U15s toppled league leaders Wycombe House in an excellent team performance. Charlie Maunders was exceptional for his 90* off 64 balls and Ayush Obhrai anchored the innings with his 44. Alfie Granger’s 24 off only 6 balls boosted Sunbury to 190. Seamers Alfie Bloomfield (2-10 off 4) and Jack Marland (2-15 off 4) bowled brilliantly, while Charlie Maunders took the big wicket of Eisa Khan in his miserly spell, as Sunbury won by 80 runs.

A heavily one-sided affair saw the U17s hammer Hampton Hill by 163 runs. Aryan Mittra’s outstanding innings brought up his maiden century for Sunbury as he smashed 111 off only 55 balls.
