Sunday 11th May
The U8s kicked off our week with a 69-run win against Woking & Horsell. Sunbury batted first and compiled 142 for the loss of only four wickets off their 16 overs. George Hack-Davies played brilliantly with both bat and ball, hitting 17 runs and picking up 1 wicket with an economy of just 0.5. Ralph Klein also had a good day with the ball as he took 3 wickets from 2 overs, going for only 10 runs.
Unfortunately, it was a tough day at the office for the U9s, who lost to Roehampton by 205 runs.
The U10s cantered to victory over Royal Ascot, restricting them to 79 off their 20 overs having posted 134-7. Skipper Barnabus Quin led from the front with the bat, making 27, while Aarush Kamani was the standout bowler – claiming 3-7 off 2 overs. A special mention to Sendan Konesakumar (“The Boss”) for taking an excellent caught and bowled in his 2-11 off 2 overs.
Sadly, the U13s were narrowly defeated by Wimbledon in a low-scoring affair. Having been bowled out for 67, Sunbury showed incredible spirit with the ball to be within 2 wickets of a remarkable win. Arpan Singh produced a superb all-round effort – top scoring with 17 and taking 2 wickets for the concession of only 14 runs in his 4 overs.
Monday 12th May
The U10s comfortably beat Teddington, with a solid batting performance from Dhamanveer Singh, hitting 27 off 17 balls, helping Sunbury to their total of 154-8. Eight different bowlers took a wicket – Zachary Day the standout in going for only 5 runs from his two overs – as Teddington were kept to 115.
At home, the U12s were edged out by India Gymkhana in close match that saw Sunbury fall 4 runs short in their pursuit of Indian Gym’s 137. Rhythm Gala bowled well for her 2-15 off 4 overs, while Lenny Connors batted with great skill in making 30 runs.
A solid performance from the U15s saw them get the better of Teddington. Batting first, Harry Kerridge (36 off 28) and Charlie Maunders (52 off 51) got Sunbury off to a brilliant start, and some powerful hitting from Alfie Granger late-on propelled us to 132-5. Captain Charlie Maunders continued his great game by taking a superb 4 wickets for 15 runs in his 4 overs, and it was a day to remember for wicket-keeper Rishaan Mehmi who effected 4 stumpings and assisted in a run-out as Sunbury won by 27 runs.
Wednesday 14th May
Both U14 teams had matches on Wednesday and it was 2 wins from 2!
The U14s eased past Indian Gymkhana, winning by 56 runs. Jack Marland hit his maiden half-century in an excellent innings of 59 off 42 balls, while rapid cameos from Alfie Granger (26 off just 7 balls) and Adhayan Singh (33* off 14 balls) saw Sunbury score 196. Making his debut for the U14s, Maximus Williams bowled superbly to pick up 4 wickets in 4 overs.
Meanwhile at Chertsey, the U14Bs batted first and made 158-8; Ali Sufyan held the innings together with his run-a-ball 38 and Avir Patel hit a quick-fire 20 off 12 balls. The Sunbury bowlers kept it tight and picked up wickets at regular intervals, with Lewis Williams taking 3-19 off his 3 overs, as Chertsey were bowled out for 125 in 18.1 overs.
Thursday 15th May
A phenomenal century from Ridhaan Gala helped the U13s beat Sheen Park by 56 runs. In a staggering knock consisting of 21 fours and 2 sixes, Ridhaan crunched 117* off just 59 balls after withstanding some early pressure from the Sheen bowlers, as Sunbury posted 192-7. Eshan Sharma bowled really well in taking 4 wickets to help keep Sheen to 136-8 and complete a comprehensive win.
Friday 16th May
The U15Bs claimed a 31-run victory over Barnes, with captain Leo Pearson putting in an impressive performance with bat and ball, scoring 34 runs and taking 1-5 off 4 overs. Emma Gillespie and Adhayan Singh both made composed innings’, scoring 32 and 33*, respectively to help Sunbury to 144-5. Ryan Shah took 3 wickets for 17 runs in a tidy Sunbury bowling display that ensured the win was never in doubt.
At Richmond, the U15s won their Semi-Final in the South U15 Cup. Posting 171, it was a great all-round Sunbury batting performance, with Rishaan Mehmi retiring not out on 50 off 37 balls, Alfie Granger blasting 43* off 24 and Charlie Maunders making a run-a-ball 37. The ever-reliable Albert Connors restricted Richmond to 17 runs during his 4 overs, whilst also taking 3 wickets, as Sunbury saw out a 52-run win.
Unfortunately, the U12 Girls were defeated by Ham & Petersham, although Hrisha Shah batted really well for her 20 and then conceded just 6 runs from her 2 overs. Kaia Cheung also bowled excellently – taking 1 wicket for only 4 runs in 2 overs.
The U17s got their league campaign off to a winning start with a 64-run victory at Teddington. Batting first, Sunbury compiled 194-4; Vishnu Datla made a classy 59* off 46 balls, Tyrone Visvakula hit 40 off 32 and Tom Goldney finished the innings strongly with a rapid 34* from 13 deliveries. Liam Martin produced an incredible spell of bowling, taking 5 wickets for 27 runs from his 4 overs to ensure a comfortable win.
