Monday 28th April
The week started with three games, with the Under 15s kicking things off in the first round of the National Cup away at Ashford. Sunbury won the toss and elected to bat, posting 187-4 – Ayush Obhrai scoring 42 not out and Charlie Maunders making 43. In the end Sunbury claimed a convincing 87 run win: Albert Connors the pick of the bowlers with 3-13 from his 4 overs.

The Under 15 Girls played Richmond at home in a run fest. Winning the toss and choosing to field first, it was a tough day for the bowlers as Richmond compiled a mammoth 219-1. However, the girls showed incredible spirit and skill as they fell just 14 runs short of a remarkable victory. Although Sunbury did not get the result we were hoping for, Rhythm Gala and Eloise Phillips both put on an incredible batting display – scoring 82 not out and 75, respectively.

Also playing Richmond were the Under 12s, who unfortunately lost a last-ball thriller. Sunbury batted first and made 120-5 – Ranveer Singh top scoring with 37. With Richmond cruising to victory at 104-1, the Sunbury bowlers did brilliantly to reduce them to 117-6 but Richmond scampered a single off the last ball of the game to win by 3 wickets. It wasn’t the result Sunbury wanted but Arhaan Khan bowled superbly, going for just 13 runs off 4 overs and picking up 3 wickets.

Tuesday 29th April
It was a thoroughly convincing win for the Under 10s as they thrashed Sheen Park by 112 runs, with Dhamanveer Singh putting in an outstanding all-round performance – taking 4 wickets and scoring 40 runs. Ahad Khan was also superb with the ball in picking up 4-6 off just 2 overs.

The Under 11s played Indian Gymkhana at home and, having lost the toss, Sunbury were put in the field. A solid bowling performance restricted Indian Gym to 125: Jack Morris excellent for his 1-10 off 3 overs. Oliver Birch’s 75 off just 48 balls ensured Sunbury chased down the target comfortably with 4 overs to spare and 7 wickets in hand.

The Under 13s were unfortunately defeated by Wycombe House – losing by 18 runs despite a good bowling performance from many of the Sunbury bowlers; Eashan Sharma was the standout with 3-9 off 2 overs. A good 26 from Maximus Williams was sadly not enough to chase down the 120 runs required for victory.

Wednesday 30th April
There were two magnificent wins for Sunbury on Wednesday, with the Under 11s playing Sheen Park away in the Cup. They got the chance to come back home early by chasing Sheen Park’s total of 87 in only 10.4 overs. Rowan Fry was the standout bowler as he claimed 2-8 off 3 overs, while Oliver Birch and Ranveer Singh made light work of the chase, scoring 37 not out and 38 not out, respectively.

The Under 15 Girls comfortably beat East Molesey at home, as they restricted our local rivals to 98-7 – Lilian Cattley taking 3-8 off 4 overs. Grace Mansfield’s composed 34 helped Sunbury chase down their target in just 15 overs.

Thursday 1st May
The Under 12s got revenge for their narrow defeat to Richmond on Monday as they beat the same team by 33 runs in the Cup. Oliver Birch continued his fine form with the bat, retiring not out on 30 off just 15 balls as Sunbury made 168. An all-round solid bowling performance restricted Richmond to 135-9.

However, it was unfortunately ‘May Day, May Day’ for the Under 14s and 15s, as both teams suffered disappointing defeats away from home. At Richmond, the Under 15s were bowled out for 96 chasing 117 and it was a similar story for the Under 14s who, after bowling Wycombe House out for 101 (Arjan Thandi taking 3 wickets), were dismissed for 60.

Friday 2nd May
The Under 15Bs played Indian Gymkhana and put in a great effort trying to defend 123 but sadly lost by 3 wickets. An excellent performance from captain Leo Pearson who top scored with 23 and claimed 2 wickets with the ball.

The Girls Under 13s played Spencer away and produced an incredible batting display, with Harri Wheeler and Rhythm Gala both scoring unbeaten centuries in a partnership worth a staggering 203. Sunbury ended up declaring on 221-1 with 4 overs remaining of their 20. The standout bowling performance came from Avleen Grewal, who took 3 wickets in an over as Sunbury won by 66 runs. It was a phenomenal win and well done to those who were playing their first hardball game.
