Our new outdoor nets were officially opened on Wednesday on a perfect Spring evening. The obligatory ribbon cutting was presided over by Surrey Cricket Participation Officer, Paul Reuby, and our own Emma Gillespie.
Paul has been a great supporter and was instrumental in securing a £10,000 grant from the Surrey Cricket Foundation. Emma represented our burgeoning girls section which will be making great use of the nets in the years ahead.
Earlier in the day, Surrey Councillor Buddhi Weerasinghe came down to Sunbury to see the changes. Buddhi had also donated £10,000 from the Your Fund Surrey Community Projects Fund towards the campaign. He was extremely impressed to see how his grant money had been spent.
Club Chairman, Colin Bentall, thanked all those who had made the ’seemingly impossible’ a fantastic reality. The Six at Sunbury project was led by Karl Burgess whose energy and commitment saw us go from a campaign logo and Just Giving page last April, to a completed six-lane start-of-the-art practice facility just 12 months later.
Colin also thanked the numerous generous sponsors from within our membership - many of whom have given anonymously - and our club sponsor, Pitchside, who organised one of our major fundraising events last year. Every single pound kindly given made a real difference.
