On a hot day at Woodbridge Road the 1st XI always looked in control against a poor home team and completed a comfortable 6 wkt win with plenty of overs to spare. Maunders lost the toss and Sunbury found themselves fielding in 29C heat. Kevin Smith and Ishy Sohi started as usual and were given very long spells, Sohi, obtaining bounce from the North end, broke through with short deliveries and wickets fell steadily during the innings. Only keeper McMillan (60) could build an innings. Maunders found the right combination of seam from one end and spin from the other, with Ajit Singh Sambhi tying up one end and finishing with 3-25 from 11 overs. Eventually Guildford succumbed for 177 in a slow 47 overs, Sohi finishing with 4-58 and Smith 3-56.
The Sunbury win never looked in doubt as the injured Maunders and Elliot Shaw built a 91 partnership for the first wicket. Maunders was caught tamely at mid-on with 50 of his 58 in boundaries and as few singles as possible! In came Sam Burgess, even more frantic than usual and tried to get the game over as quickly as possible, predictably hitting a quick 37 before being caught. Shaw missed out on his 50, dismissed for a solid 47, and it was left to Nath Gregory and Alex Hughes to finish things off.
The result lifts Sunbury a place in the table but with Fulton and Manro missing next week it could be a very tough afternoon with the visit of Normandy to Kenton Court.
