National Cup win at Finchampstead

A good all round team performance, with a much changed side from the previous days league encounter with Cranleigh, saw Sunbury advance to the next round of the Royal London National Cup.

Despite a fine innings of 101 from Finchampstead captain Marles, Finch were unable to press home any sort of advantage as wickets fell regularly with occasional slow bowlers Rhythm Bedi (2-28) and Mees Hussain (3-36) bowling the last 14 overs to restrict the hosts to a moderate 217.

Mees Hussain (29) and Sam Bugess (29) saw 68 on the board by the 13th over, but 4 wickets then fell for just 10 runs as Sunbury slumped to 78-4. Bedi and Randhawa then added 73 before Marles dismissed firstly Randawha (32) and then Bedi (43). John Maunders batting at 7, brought some calm to the chase and, with Connor Fulton and Ishy Sohi, knocked off the last 63 runs. Sunbury crossed the line with 12 balls to spare to set up a tough visit to Reigate Priory, where we will need to be at our best!
