Having struggled for runs this term John Maunders ignited his season, scoring a magnificent century to lead Sunbury towards a 44 run win against Surrey Premier opponents Valley End.
Opening with Ed Hughes the pair added 112 for the first wicket before Hughes (41) was dismissed in the twenty first over to give the 1’s their best start so far. But it was to turn out to be the John Maunders show as the skipper dominated throughout as he carried his bat scoring 126* that included 17–fours and a six in an innings that lasted nearly 3 hours.
In reply Valley End lost wickets at regular intervals as they reached the halfway point in their innings on 118-6. Only opener Peploe (108) showed any real resistance but when he fell to the first of Kevin Smith’s 3 wickets the result was never in doubt for Sunbury as their visitors were finally dismissed for 214.
Saran Kalsi was Sunbury’s most successful bowler with 4-35 and with Smith’s final figures of 3-30 the young Sunbury side wrapped up a comfortable 44 run victory.
