U11's (Sunbury Swans) West Surrey League Champions 2010

Sunbury won the toss and Pyrford were put into bat by the U11's captain Greg Havard. A great opening bowling performance by Max Vyvyan and Alex Pearson had Pryford three wickets down inside the first four overs. Sunbury's bowling and fielding remained superb throughout their remaining 16 over in the field. There were two run outs instigated by Rithwik Gonella and Alex Pearson and fantastic bowling performance from Fezi Ghumman, James Croft, Adam Holley and Mason Worsfold-Gregg. At the end of their Innings Pyrford had lost 10 wickets scoring just 77 runs (277 for 10 with the score starting at 200).

In reply Sunbury's opening pair Greg Havard and Conor Fulton got the Swans off to a good solid start losing just one wicket in the first four overs. The turning point in the run chase was in the 16 over when Max Vyvyan and Adam Holley came to the crease. In the last four overs Max and Adam put on 25 runs for the loss of just one wicket. With the last ball of the innings to face Max Vyvyan only needed to block the ball to take the Sunbury Swans to their first trophy win, but with style and elegance Max steered the ball to the boundary for four and the boys won by 5 runs. In total the Sunbury Swans scored 82 runs (282 for 7 off 20 overs).

As the U11's coach for the 2010 season I witness one of the best team efforts I've seen all season. The boys truly deserved their win by saving their best until last.

U13s West Surrey Champions - Again!

Normandy won the toss and elected to bat. The Sunbury opening bowlers, Morley and Hughes, held a tight line and restricted Normandy to a slow start, just 10 runs from the first 4 overs. With Normandy bats needing to push on the first wicket fell to a direct hit run out by Hughes, the second wicket falling LBW to Morley who ended his bowling spell with the best figures of the night. A good catch by Hughes and a super run out by Johnson soon got us to the lower order bats. While some resistance was shown both Williams and Birch bowled to a good economy and Tebble bagged 2 more wickets. Restricting Normandy to 113 for 5 looked like a good job done but batsmen still have to deliver.

And did they deliver!! Burgess and Hughes opened and reached 62 without loss with Sam retired on 30*. Quick runs from Douthwaite and Ayoade pushed the score along and when Hughes retired on 32*, Williams and Morley saw the game through to victory in the 18th over. A great effort on behalf of all those players who have contributed over the season to the success of this squad.

West Surrey winners again!

Great Start for the Under 8s

On 4th July Sunbury CC sent two Under 8 teams to Horsley & Send for their first 20/20 pairs matches.

The A team were dominant from the start fielding first they restricted Horsley & Send to a net score of only 79 taking 8 wickets in the process, in tandem with the excellent bowling some superb fielding meant we conceded only 3 boundaries in this score. In reply Sunbury scored 124 losing 4 wickets an impressive display that saw us score 96 of the runs off 98 legal deliveries.

The B team struggled at times with bowling but generally fielded very well took some good catches and got a stumping, despite these efforts they were left chasing 134, which they managed to get thanks to a late spurt and on the final ball with the scores tied, but an excellent ball found it's way past the bat hit the stumps and gave Horsley & Send victory. But all credit to our team they stuck to it and next time we get something on that last ball and the win will be ours.

It was a wonderful day and Horsley & Send were gracious hosts and I hope the experience and the next few friendly matches we have planned will help this years under 8s hit the ground running when they have Under 9s league matches next season.

Colts' Match Reports

Victorious U17s v Twickenham Area Final Tuesday 25th June
Sunbury won the U17 area final beating twickenham by 7 wickets. Twickenham batted first and progressed steadily against some unusually loose Sunbury bowling. Despite only losing two wickets,Twickenham were unable to increase the scoring rate in the second half of their innings and they ended with 110 - 2 in 20 overs.

Sunbury started their innings disastrously, losing Ventham(run out without facing), Shaw and Gray and were 16-3 after 3 overs. However, Pearce and Patel put together a stand of 85 before Pearce was out for 62, only 10 runs short of the target. Patel (31 n. o.) saw Sunbury home with 3 overs to spare to take the side into the county stage of the U17 Cup.

Victorious Sunbury Under 15's V Winchmore Hill Middlesex Final Tuesday 25th June
Firstly a team can only compete with the right number of competitors and for that we have to thank, The Cowells, Mr Garvey and Surinda Bacon for their fantastic efforts in getting the boys to Winchmore Hill. But now we had 12 as James Churchman's hand has now recovered, Sam Burgess as a true club man agreed to stand down, without a doubt many will have to stand down for him in the future!

We decided to bowl but being short of a few bowlers, Cam Cowell began his eventful day bowling 4 overs 1 for 24, and his opening partner Rauri Critchard 2 for 23 both suffered as Winchmore sped to 20 off the first couple of overs. We did however slowly claw our way back, Saran Kalsi after a couple of difficult early overs bowled superbly at the death to finish with 2 for 21, Alex Hughes put the brakes on not only with some great bowling but also with intuitive captaincy. Our fielding was top quality with Jamie Ross keeping superbly for the first half and then our Utility Man Cam took over. Great efforts by Max Garvey and Jack Southby in the ring stopped any attempts for quick singles and kept the pressure on. Tom Bacon must be one of the quickest and best out fielders at this age group and he stopped countless runs on the boundary. We were aided by two fine diving catches from Rauri and Jake Tosetti, as Winchmore struggled to capitalise on their promising start. Mike Smith added to their problems with 1 for 24 as he and Alex with 1 for 20 bowled in tandem. The Winchmore innings ground to a halt as Tom and Mike both took difficult catches, Utility Man Cam Cowell had a stumping of Alex and a run out of the last ball. It was a truly great effort by all. Winchmore were restricted to just 115 from their 20 overs.

Well the batting looked so simple. James with 34 runs looked in great form as he and Rauri with 37 runs smashed 78 of the first 7 overs. We were treated to an array of drives cuts and pulls that were a level above what we had seen from the Winchmore boys and the match looked settled needing only 38 from 13 overs. Of course not; we lost 5 wickets in a dramatic slump. It was getting very, very dark and the opposition getting very, very lively. Still captain Alex 15* saw us home with Utility Man Cam hitting the winning boundary. We had a few overs to spare but in truth the light meant we won with only a couple of minutes left! It was a wonderful team effort by all, culminating with Dave Smith organising the side driving the boys there, scoring and then chauffer home many thanks to him and the boys for such a successful day.

Child Protection

We are fully compliant with all child protection requirements and have a Club Welfare Officer who is a full member of the Club's Management Committee.

Top Class Facilities

The Sunbury ground is one of the most attractive cricket grounds in Surrey.
We have a new FOUR LANE outdoor Nets Complex and extensive grounds to train on.
We have three Squares which means most Colts cricket is played on grass.
We have large Clubhouse and bar. The bar is available to the parents and/or guardians as part of the Family Membership arrangements under which colts join the Club. The clubhouse and bar are also available for private functions and are open during most Colts' matches and training sessions.

Competitive and Friendly Cricket for All

We enter the Middlesex and Surrey Junior League and Cup competitions and at some age groups put out an A and B side so that as many players as possible get a game.

We aim to be successful in the competitions we enter. Despite this, and the high standard of some of our current and former colts, we never lose sight of the fact that the junior section is there to coach and encourage players of all abilities to develop their skills to develop a lifetime understanding and enjoyment of cricket as well as to take their places eventually in the senior sides.

Life after COLTS Cricket

Many of our colts go on to play adult cricket at weekends and many colts from U14 upwards played adult cricket in 2009 season. On any one weekend between 30% and 40% of the players in the senior sides are current or very recent junior players, including the Club Chairman and 7 of the 8 captains and vice captains in our 4 Saturday XIs.

We also have ex-colts now playing for Middlesex and Leicestershire and one who has played Test and ODI matches for England.

We have achieved Surrey FOCUS status which is an accreditation of excellence.
