In stark contrast to the their exciting victory last week, Valley End were woeful as they capitulated to give Sunbury one of their easiest victories ever recorded in the Surrey Championship 1st XI Premier Division.
On a hard, fast Sunbury track, Valley End won the toss, elected to bat and that proved fatal as they lost their first wicket without a run on the board. Although they recovered to 51 they then fell apart as the last nine wickets went down for a mere 38 runs as they were rolled over for just 89 in the 25th over just before lunch. Only opener Jason Redwood (35) was able to cope with the medium pace of Nath Gregory who captured 5-14 in 7.5 overs and the ever improving deceptive spin of Amar Virdi (3-16).
If their batting was woeful their bowling was catastrophic. Opener Mark Collier was removed from the attack in his first over after bowling two unauthorised beamers and what followed was total carnage as Sam Burgess 59* with eleven 4’s and a six and Elliott Shaw 30* knocked off the runs in just 12.4 overs.
This Saturday Sunbury entertain Reigate Priory in a game that has always been a close fought battle, aiming for revenge from their defeat earlier in the Season.
