3rd XI v Spencer – 27 May 2017

Courtesy of Linky Sharma:

Saturday saw our 3rd XI take on joint league toppers and defending champions Spencer, at home.

Spencer won the toss and elected to bowl first on a surface, which looked better suited for batting.

Sunbury lost an early wicket in the explosive Linky Sharma, but Greg havard and Sunny bajwa showed good character and controlled the innings very well. They consistently put the bad ball away and rotated the strike, with Greg scoring 86 and Sunny scoring 50. The rest of the team chipped in well, with Ali Hussain scoring a quick 31 and Vik scoring an agressive 44. This put us in a dominant position, with a more than competitive total of 277 in 50 overs.

In the 2nd half, our strong bowling line up started well (Birch and Mirza) bowling tight lines and moving the ball in the air as well as off the seam. We removed their openers early, as well as their threatening batsmen with Colin Bentall taking wickets at regular intervals. Mani Bains complimented him well, bowling at good speeds, and then Shirsh Bedi bowled an amazing spell of swing bowling and took 4 wickets to clean the tail up.
This win was a joint team effort, with all the team contributing in one way or another, and puts us joint top with Wimbledon. We as a club look strong, and are looking forward to more challenges in the near future.
