On a bright and sunny day, Weybridge won the toss and elected to bat. A great start from the Sunbury team reducing Weybridge to 65 for 5 with good upfront pressure from Saran Kalsi taking 3 early wickets. Justin Granger steamed in from the pavilion end to then take a further two wickets leaving Weybridge struggling 0n 116 for 6.
Some tight bowling and fielding by Sunbury added pressure in the middle part of the Weybridge innings with both Sunbury spin bowlers coming into the game, Nish Madan taking 1-19 and skipper Curtis Higgins taking 2-15 off 5. Weybridge on 127-8 were allowed to get away and added a further 46 runs before Harveer Mahajan ended the innings with a brilliant stumping. Final score ending on 173 all out.
The Sunbury innings got off to a quick start with Granger and Andrew Martin playing their shots to fine effect. However, it was abruptly ended with Granger being given out LBW hit on the toe and hobbling off in some discomfort. Martin was soon to follow and with losing Mahajan for just a 1, Sunbury could have been in trouble at 51-3. Rajan Soni and Darren London soon steadied the innings and batted superbly hitting the ball to all parts of the ground.
Soni was out hitting a great 85 leaving the score on 167-4, D London then saw Sunbury home ending on 41 not out and a comfortable victory was complete.
The team need to build on today’s result and reduce the extras accounted for. Onto Spencer to continue the good run.
