2s slip up against Farnham
Losing the toss on a green deck with short boundaries, Sunbury were reduced to 31 for 3 as the Farnham bowlers used the facilities to their advantage. Sacha Duran (28) and Darren London (40) put up some resistance, but when the latter fell the score was precariously placed at 110-5.
Step up Armaan Randhawa. A mixture of hard hitting down the ground and smartly maneuvering the field, resulted in his first league 50 of the season and for the club. He eventually fell for a very well made 84, as Sunbury looked like the were going to fall just short of 200. That was until a 10th wicket partnership of 30 from Eddie Knight (21) and Saran Kalsi (9) took the score to 225-9 when the declaration arrived on 50.5 overs.
The defence of a slightly below par target couldn’t have got off to a better start as Kasli had the opener caught behind off the first ball of the innings. A second wicket shortly followed but a little resistance and Farnham were calmly placed at 69-2 off 20. Needing a breakthrough, Justin Granger went galloping round the boundary picking up the ball while shouting to ORJ “don’t take me on”, and he was right.
Another breakthrough followed and when the 5th fell for 118 on 32 overs, Sunbury looked like they were 1 wicket away from the game. However, the Farnham number 4 batted very well for his 85, and being accompanied by some healthy hitting from numbers 7 through 9. They were able to reach their target with 2 wickets and 11 balls to spare.
A disappointing result having been top before the start of the day. However, with results going their way, the 2s remain 3 points off top, with a long way still to go. First stop, a trip to Weybridge!
